New building site of the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan.
Expected opening September 2010.
This year, Manhattan’s only Conservative Jewish Day School turns 13 and is preparing to inhabit its brand new (permanent) building! This facility on Manhattan’s Upper West Side will support and reflect the innovative, meaningful and joyous child-centered Jewish education that takes place inside. After construction delays pushed back the timetable, the new campus is now expected to open in September 2010.
Address of the new site: 805 Columbus Ave, Manhattan
Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan sssm.org, an award-winning private Jewish school in Manhattan that has shared space with two synagogues since its founding in 1996, will be relocating its Lower Elementary Division (kindergarten and first grade) and Middle School (sixth through eighth grade) to a new, permanent home at 805 Columbus Avenue.
Totalling over 13,000 square feet, the new campus will be located on the southeast corner at 100th Street, part of the Columbus Village development now underway from 97th Street to 100th Street. Once the developer finishes exterior construction, school-designed interior work can begin, targeting September 2010 for the grand opening. “We are thrilled to finally have a home of our own,” said Dr. Steven Lorch, Head of School. Now our expanded physical space will match the superb education that we’ve been giving to hundreds of students for the last 13 years.
Solomon Schechter Day School of Palm Beach County is relocating to a brand new facility at Temple Torah of West Boynton Beach in June 2008. The Boynton Beach area is one of the fastest growing young Jewish family cities in Florida. The school is looking forward to its new home and to attracting families in this promising, new catchment area to Solomon Schechter.
SSDSEU celebrates the completion of our Upper School construction! As of May 14, our 6th-12th grade students enter the building through a brand new expanded building—with free space for students to congregate and a wonderful entry to welcome everyone. Our brand new science labs allow for enhanced learning, more space and state of the art facilities and equipment. Our new office space allows for professionalism, collaboration and learning, while the additional space we were able to create provides room for a Student Activities Center. We have also enhanced our network and communication capabilities by providing an integrated, cross campus telephone system as well telephone and internet access in every classroom and wireless access throughout the building.
